Level 05 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design

A nationally recognised qualification, the Level 05 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design is designed for fire safety and built environment professionals seeking to develop practical fire engineering design competence. 

Course Length: 372 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) inc. 134 Guided Learning Hours (GLH)

Teaching Method: In-person seminars and activities with self-guided study

Units: 8 mandatory teaching units

Assessment Method: Each teaching week includes two units, with each unit assessed through a single assignment. Assignments take the form of a structured workbook containing questions that follow the sequence of material covered during the teaching week.

The course is delivered over eight units, each addressing key aspects of Fire Engineering Design.

Learners must complete all 8 mandatory units:

1. Principles of Fire Science for Fire Engineering Design
2. Principles of Fire Engineering for Fire Engineering Design
3. Fire Engineering Design of Automatic Fire Suppression Systems
4. Fire Engineering Design of Means of Escape, Occupant Behaviour and Condition
5. Fire Engineering Design of Materials, Elements of Structure and Structural Response to Fire
6. Fire Engineering Design of Smoke Control and Ventilation Systems
7. Fire Engineering Design of External Fire Spread and External Wall Systems
8. Fire Engineering Design of Fire Service Intervention Strategies

This course will be of particular interest to Fire Engineers, Fire Risk Assessors and Fire Surveyors.

There are no formal entry requirements although learners should be able to work at Level 04 or above and be proficient in the use of English Language. It would be advantageous, although not compulsory, to have completed the Level 04 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design. 

This qualification is competence-based and candidates must therefore demonstrate the level of competence described within the Qualification Specification.

Upon successful completion of the course and passing all assessments, learners will be awarded the 'ProQual Level 05 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design'. All delegates will also be provided with a Delta Training Academy CPD certificate on the final day of each teaching block.
